Kosarakollikal is bogged down by too many cliches and a predictable story. Director Jayan C Krishna has a lot of things to talk about and he tries hard to put it all together in two hours. Is it possible for one to talk about environment, religious fanaticism, politics, corruption and above all a love triangle in one movie that is expected to have a beginning, middle, a climax and an anticlimax?
Sreekuttan and Anwar are childhood friends, who have love-hate relationship. The duo lives on a small island in Kerala and are both very socially concerned. They love the same girl, Maina, who is their childhood friend. While the war between the two for Mina is underway, we also see the different colours of the people of the island. There are the greedy ones who conspired to make the island a tourist spot, there are corrupt political players, there are men who believe the island can be filled with waste bags from the city and obviously, there are also men who believe women are just objects to find their happiness.
It is quite tough to confine the storyline of the movie in just a few sentences as it reminds one of the saying, jack of all trades and master of none. The movie speaks about everything and anything under the sky.
The technical aspects, acting and direction of the movie aren’t commendable.
The film teaches us a lesson on filmmaking, basically to focus on just one element and to do homework on the story. Or else it will be another ‘Kosarakolli’ in Malayalam cinema.
