An International Local Story
One can’t help expecting some quality humour from a movie directed by someone like Harisree Ashokan, whose evergreen comedy characters are often binge watched by Malayalam movie buffs. A film in which he also stars, An International Local Story begins on a promising note.
True to its name, the story starts off in an international location, Malaysia. And from there, it gets routed to become the tale of a young US-returnee doctor named Rahul, who is all set to get married in Kerala. Long story short, numerous plots and characters later, the tale is back to where it started.
A few minutes into the film, it hints what lies ahead is a bizarre story. One wouldn’t mind it if the film manages to entertain, but after every frame, it leaves you hungry for laughs. The comedy dialogues are quite tacky and unentertaining, that one can’t believe the talented team behind it, who specialise in humour, couldn’t forsee their impact on screen. Thanks to the hotchpotch setting, one would feel claustrophobic too with the number of people involved in the various scenarios. The characters are also obsessed with innerwear. There are at least two or three insipid so-called comedy dialogues on whether those in the scenes are wearing them or not, the implications, ‘revelations’ and thereabouts.
An International Local Story is a tiresome rom-com that lacks enough flavour to entertain for two hours.
