Poozhikkadakan Malayalam HD Released

Filmmakers often use social issues as subjects for their films. In Puzhikkadakan, director Gireesh Nair takes on illegal mining and how it serves as a lucrative business for many in the society.

Chemban Vinod Jose, after his brilliant performance in Jallikattu, makes a quick transformation as a military personnel Samuel, who is also a family man in the film. His home town Cheruthoni and the quarry mafia at the place later makes the calm and composed family man to revolt after his life with his wife Anna (Dhanya Balakrishna), son and mother (Mala Parvathy) turns topsy-turvy overnight.

The film tackles the relevant topic emotionally and is sure to make the audience think, especially with its characters who are relatable laymen.

However, the director doesn’t explore the actor in Chemban Vinod. Though he portrays the caring husband, big brother and son well, the actor doesn’t quite hit home as an emotional father. When Samuel goes through a difficult stage in life, the makers could have enhanced these portions with a few dialogues or emotions rather than just making him look pale. Dhanya does her part well as a lovable wife. Actors Alencier Lopez, Sudhi Koppa and Balu Varghese add comedy to the movie.

Though the first half is slow in pace, the nutmeg groves, tranquil water bodies and the misty hills of Cheruthoni are captured in all their visual delight. The cameo appearance of Jayasurya as a district collector also seems to have a resemblance to a suspended IAS officer in real life. The second half, in which the pale Samuel gets into action and dares to play a life and death game to resolve his issues, had several eventful incidents that added to the social impact of the film.
