Abhiyum Anuvum begins with Abhi aka Abhimanyu (Tovino Thomas, making his Tamil debut with a slang that reminds one of Mammootty's early Tamil films), a corporate professional in Chennai, echoing a similar line from Mudhalvan - how comfortable it would be if life had a rewind button just like the one on a remote. The film then takes us back to the past to the moment when Abhi is charmed by Anu (Pia Bajpai, who captures the two shades of the characters impressively), a Tamil cinema version of a Manic Pixie Dream Girl who lives in Ooty, after coming across her Facebook videos. Their interactions result in them falling in love with each other. On a whim, they decide to marry instantly, not even waiting for their parents. Abhi's business-first parents (Udhayabanu Maheswaran and Deepa Ramanujam) have always been absent in his life while Amy's mother Meena (Rohini) is away and unreachable. Everything seems to be going fine, at least for these two characters, (for, we never fully buy this romance, which comes across as artificial), and the young couple is over the moon when Anu becomes pregnant. But their happiness is shattered with a revelation, which shakes up the very foundation of their relationship.
