Thanner Mathan Dhinagal DVD Released

Tales that take one back in time, especially to the formative years of school days, can almost always be a winner. But, to make it a movie-long memorable affair, it takes enough of clever, relatable fun elements and smart storytelling. Thanneermathan Dinangal is a story that succeeded in presenting them all, for most parts.

Jaison (Mathew Thomas) likes his classmate Keerthy (Anaswara Rajan), but despises how she admires Ravi sir (Vineeth Sreenivasan), who always takes a dig at him. The youngster works towards winning Keerthy’s heart, but it isn’t easy.

A stirring movie strengthened by the ensemble of young, talented actors who sure have what it takes to be stars in future, Thanneermathan Dinangal is a fun watch. One can’t help but give maximum credit to its actors, who commit to their roles well by presenting the adolescent crushes, relationships and more with utmost naturality.

Mathew Thomas in particular is extremely likeable for his endearing portrayal of Jaison. There is a fluency in his performance, that helps him get even the smallest of the expressions just right. Anaswara Rajan’s talent is no less, and the spirited exchanges of the two leads, the ones who play their friends and even teachers are quite engaging. Even the simplest of scenes featuring their time in the shop drinking watermelon juice and eating puffs are simply fun to watch. Vineeth also appears in an avatar he hasn't tried so far, and plays the fun Ravi sir, quite well.

However, during the portions leading towards the climax, the makers seem confused as to how they want to wrap up the tale. The final portions are over-stretched, and incidents that aren’t as charming or convincing as the first portion is brought in, diminishing the overall impact of the movie. Then again, the film merits a watch for the many cute and funny portions featuring the dilemmas and adorable, natural expressions of Jaison and his friends.
