French Biriyani HD Released

Plot: Simon, a Frenchman, lands in India to be mistaken as a peddler. Joining him in his misadventures with the Shivajinagar mafia in Bengaluru is auto rickshaw driver Asgar.

Review: This typical comedy of errors with mistaken identities begins with the death of a local don Charles. His wastrel son is given a cryptic message before his death, only to not remember it fully. This leads them to try and decipher what he meant, from which begins a quirky chase where the two leading men - Simon and Asgar - join in.

It is not too often in recent times that out-and-out comedies have been made in Kannada cinema. The makers have either made commercial cinema with a dose of comedy or mostly stuck to thrillers and horror drama in recent times. So French Biriyani comes in as a change from the pattern. Does this manage to stand out? It does to an extent. There are some obvious gags and physical comedy that evoke laughs.

One might feel that the film, which is under two hours in length, could have been tightened further. The film has some interesting caricatures as characters who add to the ensemble that are all part of the madness. Films like these have been seen in Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi, especially, but it does break the monotony for the Kannada film viewers.

Filmmaker Pannaga Bharana, in his second venture as a filmmaker, has chosen a script that seems simple in thought, but tough in execution given the reliance on comic timing. He's managed to cast actors who suit their parts. Danish Sait and Sal Yusuf as Asgar and Simon are apt and deliver. Sampath Kumar, Mahantesh Hiremath, Vicky, Pitobash, Disha Madan and Nagabhushan too deserve a mention. Chikkanna in his cameo is entertaining. Vasuki Vaibhav's music is another highlight.

French Biriyani does not promise any big message to preach, nor does it boast star power in the cast. But, if a fun watch to laugh at some very Bengaluru jokes is what you seek, this will interest you.
