Kozhipporu Malayalam HD Released

Jinoy Jibit’s film Kozhipporu, set in the rustic underbelly of Ernakulam, starts with a ‘inspired from true events’ disclaimer. Definitely, the story is one that could have taken place in any neighbourhood, but probably not something that has enough drama or entertainment to merit a movie.

Mary and Beena, who are neighbourhood pals, buy a few chickens together and raise them with great care. Once, Mary notices her chicken atop Beena’s terrace, and suspects that’s where it lays eggs. The misunderstanding turns the friendship ugly and it gets magnified when they discover their children are having an affair.

The film, with an eighties-tinged story, might have made sense if released decades ago. Yes, certain stretches of it can offer you some nostalgia with its neighbourhood camaraderie, and a flavour of this world. All the actors, Pouly, Jolly, Navajith, Veena and others, have performed well within the limited scope of the tale.

But, the film might at best probably remind you of a similarly silly incident that can be a five-minute story you casually narrate. The simple premise definitely had some potential if handled sensibly, but the film is extremely short on any novel entertainment or story-telling. The developments are moderately amusing. There are all possible clichés that one can expect from a tale of the genre. The ending, in particular, could hardly be lazier. The film is just 99 minutes but at times, one can’t help feeling it’s still slow. Kozhipporu is often nothing more than a neighbourhood feud you might casually take a glimpse at, while busy with some other work.
