Biskoth HD Released

Biskoth begins with a prologue involving Dharmarajan (Aadukalam Naren), a small-time biscuit maker, who dreams of turning his business into a huge brand and making his son Raja (Santhanam) its head. However, fate intervenes and Dharmarajan passes away, leaving his friend Narasimhan (Anandaraj, who has become a constant in Santhanam's films) to take over the reins of the business.

Years pass by, and Raja becomes a worker in the company, where he faces competition from Ganesh. Raja, who is close to an old age home and its occupants, becomes friendly with the home's newest member, Janaki (Sowcar Janaki, in her 400th film), whose past is a mystery. Janaki has a habit of narrating stories and Raja quickly realises that the stories that she tells him are actually coming true in his real life. Will Janaki ensure that her story ends on a happy note for Raja?

Taking inspiration from the 2008 Adam Sandler movie Bedtime Stories, director Kannan comes up with an Indianised Bedtime story with Biskoth. To his credit, Kannan localises the Hollywood tropes well... Bedtime story becomes paati kadhai, babysitting becomes taking care of inmates at an old-age home, hotel business is turned into a biscuit company, and so on. But these cosmetic changes cannot hide the unoriginality at the film's core.

Also, with characters who are sketchily written (the film has two heroines - Swathi Muppala and Tara Alisha Berry - and neither register) and a script that is content to move from one scene to the next, the moments that truly matter hardly make an impact. At best, the film gives the feel of a skit. This is especially true when Kannan gives us the stories that Janaki narrates as Raja's imagination. Given Santhanam's penchant for delivering a counter to every other line that the other characters utter, the effect is more like that of watching a new episode of Lollu Sabha, which made the actor a household name. But it is a pity that the comedy is nowhere close to what we have seen on the popular TV show.
