Director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval proved that he had a knack for telling a rooted-to-reality story with urban elements through his debut directorial Android Kunjappan Ver. 5.25. In his upcoming movie titled Kanakam Kamini Kalaham, which has Nivin Pauly in the lead, the filmmaker promises more of the same.
Talking about the film, Ratheesh tells us, “This too is a movie about ordinary people and their lives; the film is based on an interesting incident. It’s a family drama that has dark humour and is also a satire. I decided to cast Nivin in the lead because he was apt for the role and also it’s been a while since he has played such a character.”
Ask him if the movie has been scripted taking into account the pandemic restrictions and the filmmaker says, “It’s not a small project but it’s a story that can be shot even during the pandemic. It can be filmed in confined locations and that’s the reason we have decided to go ahead with the film. If everything goes well, this will be Nivin’s next project.”
The project could go on floors soon. “Right now, we are only finalising the cast and crew of the movie. It should be done in the coming days. The entire movie will be shot in Ernakulam,” says Ratheesh.
Nivin, meanwhile, has a few portions of Padavettu remaining to shoot. He is also part of an upcoming romcom titled Bismi Special and a rural action film named Gangs of Mundanmala.
