Thalli Pogathey Tamil HD Released

In a scene in the middle section of Thalli Pogathey, a romantic film that tries hard to be a modern-day relationship drama without offering any spark, its protagonist Karthik (Atharvaa) tells his landlord and the father (Aadukalam Naren) of Pallavi (Anupama Parameswaran), the girl he loves that romance doesn't suit him because "aadradhu odradhu thedradhu dhaadi idhellaam namakku set aagaadhu".

But in the film’s opening scene, we see him as a guy who seems to have done all that to reunite with his lover. It is also what makes Pallavi be concerned about him and visit him. She tries convincing him that she is happy with her husband Arun (Amitash Pradhan), but Karthik insists she seems to be living two lives, showing a happy face to the world, and still pining for Karthik inside. And so, she invites him to spend 10 days in house, with her and Arun, so that he can see that she has moved on. Karthik agrees, but on the condition that if he finds out that she still has feelings for him, she would leave Arun.

Thalli Pogathey has a unique premise, but despite the edginess in it, the film feels rather bland, thanks to the lacklustre writing, with shallow characterisation, and lifeless performances. There is hardly any chemistry between the three leads. Despite his screen presence, Atharvaa looks like he is just going through the motions. Anupama cannot transcended the broad writing of her character (in fact, she comes across as just another loosu ponnu heroine in the initial scenes) while the performance of Amitash, who looks the part of a genial, broad-minded husband, doesn't carry any emotional heft. It is only Aadukalam Naren, who manages to give a convincing performance as an empathetic father trying to make sense of modern-day relationships.

It is only the production design and the Parisian setting that feels sleek and modern. But this, in turn, only makes us feel like we are watching a feature-length TV commercial with hardly any emotional involvement.
