Daughter Of Parvathamma DVD Released

Vaidehi is a no-nonsense CID officer. When she is handed the case of a dead doctor to investigate, she is left baffled trying to figure if it was a suicide case or a murder. She sets out to find the truth.

Debutant director Shankar J's D/O Parvathamma is what you would call your average heroism laden fare served with a twist, there is a gender subversion in the narrative. The protagonist, who is the rough and tough cop, is a woman and the leading men in the film are shown in roles that women would be seen in when they do commercial testosterone filled dramas. Does this work? The concept in a larger, generic way does, but the narrative could have done with a lot more punch.

The film opens with the investigation of a dead doctor. Soon, we are introduced to the leading lady and CID officer Vaidehi. She goes about trying to unearth the mystery in a direct manner, which is devoid of the over-the-top masala that's seen in films of this kind. The film is short, which is nice, but it could have done with a little more zany narrative. Though, the film has some fun moments, especially those featuring the leading lady trying to court her two romantic interests.

D/O Parvathamma is entertaining in parts and a one-time watch in all. There is scope for improvement, but the director's atypical characterisation of his leading lady is commendable. Hariprriya puts in her best for this film and it shows. Suraj Gowda and Prabhu Mundkur play their respective small parts well. Hariprriya and Sumalatha Ambareesh's scenes are also a highlight. Go ahead and try this film if you want to watch something different, yet not too far from the regular commercial fare.
